3d Marine Amphibious Brigade
The 3d Marine Amphibious Brigade was the command formed to oversee the final stages of the Marine ground presence and withdrawal from Vietnam, consolidating the remaining Marine forces as the Corps drew down its commitment in the country.
Rather than a battle, it represented the organizational framework through which the last Marine ground units conducted their closing operations and the orderly departure of Marine forces from the war. The brigade managed the difficult transition of handing over responsibilities, redeploying units, and maintaining security as the Marine combat role in Vietnam came to an end. Its existence marked the closing chapter of the long Marine ground commitment that had begun with the landing at Da Nang, the once-massive Marine presence reduced to a brigade and then withdrawn. The 3d Marine Amphibious Brigade thus stands less as a combat record than as the administrative capstone of the Marine ground war's conclusion in Vietnam.
