MAG-12 Bien Hoa Rocket Attacks
The rocket attacks on Bien Hoa struck the air base where Marine Aircraft Group 12 was operating during the later period of American involvement, as the enemy harassed the major airfields with standoff bombardment.
Over a span of months the base absorbed a large number of rocket attacks, many of them falling in the Marine aircraft group's area, a persistent threat that damaged facilities and aircraft and inflicted casualties even on a rear installation far from the front lines. The attacks exemplified the enemy's ability to reach out and strike at the air bases that sustained allied air operations, denying the Marines any true safety even at an established airfield. For the Marine aviators and ground crews at Bien Hoa, the rocketing was a constant background danger of life on the base. The attacks formed part of the wider pattern of standoff bombardment the enemy maintained against allied airfields throughout the war.
