Combat· Afghanistan War (Op ENDURING FREEDOM)
Op Double Check
Operation Double Check was a Marine operation in Helmand Province, one of the named operations in the later period of the Marine campaign as forces continued to clear and hold contested ground and to transition responsibility to Afghan forces.
The Marines pushed into or patrolled insurgent-contested areas to disrupt the enemy, clear improvised explosive devices, and reinforce the security of the population in keeping with the counterinsurgency and transition approach. The operation was part of the sustained Marine activity in Helmand as the campaign matured and the emphasis shifted toward building Afghan capacity and consolidating the gains of the surge. Double Check contributed to the broader effort to secure the Helmand districts and prepare for the handover of the fight to Afghan units. It was one of the building-block operations of the later campaign, part of the continuing work of holding ground against a persistent insurgency in the province.
