Que Son District HQ Defense
The defense of the Que Son district headquarters was a local action in the contested Que Son region southwest of Da Nang, where enemy forces attacked the district seat and its defending garrison as part of the persistent fighting for control of that vital and populous basin.
Marines, operating in support of South Vietnamese forces in the area, helped defend the headquarters against the assault, holding the position as the enemy attempted to overrun it. The action was characteristic of the war in the Que Son area, where the Communists repeatedly struck at the local centers of government control and the allies fought to retain them. The defense of the district headquarters was one of the many small but hard-fought engagements that filled the Marines' war in the populated lowlands and their fringes. It reflected the continuing contest for the Que Son region, ground that remained bitterly disputed throughout the Marine involvement.
