Combat· Iraq War (Op IRAQI FREEDOM)
Battle of At Turba
At Turba was the site of an action in the Iraq War involving Marine forces operating in the contested areas of Anbar Province during the counterinsurgency campaign, part of the continual fighting to clear and control the towns and approaches of the insurgent-ridden province.
The Marines engaged insurgent forces in and around the location as part of the broader effort to suppress al-Qaeda in Iraq and bring stability to the region. The action belonged to the pattern of localized engagements that filled the Marine war in Anbar, the clearing of strongpoints and the contesting of ground in the long struggle against the insurgency. The fight at At Turba was one of the many such local actions across the province during this period of intense counterinsurgency operations.
