Bulkeley/Magazine Road Breakout
The Bulkeley and Magazine Road breakout was one of the more serious disturbances of the Guantanamo migrant-camp operations, an incident in which Haitian migrants broke out of their camp confines and moved along Magazine Road, requiring the Marines to contain the breakout and restore control. The episode was among the most demanding of the camp crises, a large-scale eruption of unrest that tested the Marines' ability to manage a frustrated and mobile population without resorting to deadly force against vulnerable people. The Marines responded to halt the breakout, channel the migrants, and reestablish order in a tense and potentially dangerous situation.
