General Greene blockade
Through February 1800 the frigate USS General Greene blockaded Jacmel on the southern coast of Saint-Domingue, supporting Toussaint Louverture's land assault on forces loyal to André Rigaud.
The Marines aboard, under First Lieutenant James Weaver, took part as the ship cruised off the port to cut off supplies, helping reduce the town to starvation, and at one point the General Greene engaged three of Rigaud's forts warmly for thirty or forty minutes. Jacmel fell on 27 February. The operation was an unusual case of American naval force cooperating with Toussaint's Haitian army against a common enemy during the Quasi-War.
