Hill 362B (Iwo Jima)
Hill 362B fell the day after the neighboring 362A and Nishi Ridge, part of the Hill 362 complex of mutually supporting strongpoints across the V Amphibious Corps front.
The 26th Marines made the assault in a single dawn-to-dusk fight, with Company F of the 2d Battalion taking the brunt and losing the last of the platoon commanders who had landed on the first day. During the night more than a hundred Japanese infiltrators were killed approaching the new positions. The Marines supplied the assault regiment and the supporting arms that carried the feature.
