Tegucigalpa Deployment 1924-1925
A late-Banana-Wars protective deployment to the Honduran capital.
From early 1924 into the next year, amid political unrest and civil conflict in Honduras, Marines were landed and sent up to Tegucigalpa to help maintain order, securing key government buildings and the American legation through the period of instability. The duty was protective rather than combat, the Marines standing guard over American interests and lives while the local turmoil ran its course, and no casualties resulted. It was characteristic of the smaller interventions of the era's later years, when American Marines were repeatedly called on to put a stabilizing presence into a Central American capital during a disputed election or a flare of revolution, then withdraw once the danger passed. The Honduras deployment was one of the quieter such episodes, a guard mission in a troubled capital rather than a campaign, and it cost the Corps nothing.
